Luke is a web developer and designer with over five years of experience working in digital and creative agencies across in the UK. He now brings his expertise to the SPG team, focusing on enhancing digital presence and purpose across various areas of the organisation. Passionate about crafting user-friendly and visually engaging websites, Luke aims to effectively communicate SPG's mission. He is dedicated to continuous improvement and collaborates closely with team members to ensure that digital initiatives align with organisational goals and resonate with the community.

SENIOR MANAGER - COMMUNICATIONS AND ENGAGEMENT (ADELAIDE)

Marta manages the Communications and Engagement Team at SPG. Marta is passionate about the power of communication to connect people with ideas and support positive social change. She has tertiary qualifications in communications, international trade and development, and anthropology, and has a rich professional background having worked across international development, trade and health sectors. Marta has always had a passion for women’s rights and challenging harmful social norms. She is strongly driven by positive social movements and working towards a more equal, safe and compassionate society.

Nick Ross

Nick Ross

Senior Manager - Migration and Settlement (Melbourne)

Nick works on policy and projects in the SPG Settlement and Community Capacity Building team. Nick helps facilitate the Settlement Engagement and Transition Support (SETS) Community of Practice (CoP) and supports the Ukrainian Community and Settlement Support (UCASS) grant program. Nick also facilitates research, consultation, and policy formulation in settlement and community capacity building. Nick has a background in humanitarian-development research as well as evaluation and learning, having previously conducted research for non-government organisations, the United Nations, foundations, and donor governments, with a focus on Afghanistan. Nick holds a Master of International Relations from the University of Melbourne.

Nina Smith

Project Administrator - Thrive Logan (Queensland)

Nina is part of SPG’s THRIVE Logan project administration team, working to connect diverse communities and partners to enhance economic and social participation. Nina is passionate about social justice, human rights, and advocating for positive social change alongside marginalised socio-demographic groups in community. She has tertiary qualifications in events management, social work, and has gone on to engage in post-doctoral studies exploring Neurodivergent identity and human rights alongside Neurodivergent adults in contemporary Australia. Nina’s passion for community originated from her work in the not-for-profit arts sector working with young people disengaged from mainstream schooling as a creative program facilitator. Her professional career journey has involved varied social work roles alongside children and families in the child protection sector, people with disabilities, and young people in out of home care. She has spent the last four years working at the University of Southern Queensland in the School of Psychology and Wellbeing while undertaking research forming part of her Doctor of Philosophy program.

Penelope Robson

JCDI Secretariat (Canberra)

Penelope works on the Secretariat for the Judicial Council on Diversity and Inclusion (JCDI) and the Diversity & Inclusion Justice Network (DIJN), providing administrative support for both bodies. She is currently studying a Bachelor of Laws and a Bachelor of Political Science at the Australian National University and holds experience working as a paralegal in a family law firm. She is passionate about improving access to justice, and creating a legal system that is equitable and inclusive to all.

Project Management Officer (Canberra)

Shixi joins the SPG Digital Inclusion and Communication Team as the Project Management Officer. Shixi holds an MA in International Relations and two BA degrees in International Relations and International Security Studies. He speaks Mandarin and is passionate about the social factors impacting the migrant communities' experience living in Australia.

Varsha Patil

Varsha Patil

Project Administrator – Digital Communications and Engagement (Canberra)

Varsha coordinates digital design and multilingual communication for SPG, focusing on CALD audiences. She assesses community needs, builds capacity through skill development, and facilitates information delivery. Varsha led a campaign aligned with the National Dowry Abuse Prevention Framework, creating community-led resources on family violence. She holds a BA (Hons.) in Japanese and an MA in Asian and Pacific Studies, and is a former Japanese Government Scholar. She speaks Hindi and Japanese.

Wei Cheng

Data and Information Support Officer – Multilingual and Digital Projects (Canberra)

Wei is part of the SPG’s Communications and Engagement Team. She is responsible for maintaining and updating data and information across multiple Content Management Systems. She holds two master’s degrees in education studies and musical arts, and a bachelor’s degree in Musicology. She is fluent in Cantonese, Mandarin, and English. She is passionate about making positive changes to the journeys of migrants and refugees in Australia.

Innes Willox AM

Chair

Innes is Chief Executive (appointed in 2012) of the Australian Industry Group, a leading industry organisation representing businesses in a broad range of sectors including manufacturing, construction, transport, defence, ICT and labour hire.

He also serves as Chair of the Ministerial Advisory Council on Skilled Migration, Deputy Chair of Australian Super, Director of Innovative Manufacturing Co-operative Research Centre and Australian American Leadership Dialogue, Convenor of Industry 4.0 Advanced Manufacturing Forum, and Chair of RMIT College of Business Industry Advisory Board.

Innes served as the Australian Consul General to Los Angeles (2006-2008), was Chief of Staff to the Australian Minister for Foreign Affairs from (2004-2006), and earlier held a number of private sectors and government positions including Manager of Global Public Affairs for Singapore Airlines based in Singapore (2000-2004).

Innes began his career as a journalist. His positions included Chief of Staff at The Age in Melbourne and Chief Political Correspondent for The Age in the Canberra Parliamentary Press Gallery.v

Innes was educated at Melbourne High School, Monash University (BA History and Politics), and Edinburgh Business School. He is based in Melbourne and is a lifetime supporter of the Collingwood Football Club.

Carmel Guerra OAM

Carmel Guerra OAM

Carmel is the founder and Chief Executive Officer of Centre for Multicultural Youth, the first and largest organisation in Australia to work exclusively with migrant and refugee young people.

Carmel is widely recognised for her knowledge and advocacy on multicultural youth issues.

Carmel has served on numerous boards and committees and is currently the Chairperson of the Multicultural Youth Advocacy Network Australia, the national peak body representing the rights and interests of young people from migrant and refugee backgrounds. She is also a member of the Youth Parole Board of Victoria and the SBS Community Advisory Committee.

Carmel was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia in 2016 for services to multicultural youth in Victoria and the Victorian Premier’s Award for Community Harmony in 2015.

Judge Rauf Soulio

Judge Rauf Soulio

From an Albanian migrant family, Judge Rauf Soulio graduated from the Adelaide University and was admitted to practice law in 1981. He was appointed to the bench of the South Australian District Court in 2006 and has presided over dozens of the state's highest profile criminal cases. Rauf also had concurrent appointments to the Equal Opportunity Tribunal and the Licensing Court of South Australia.

Outside of the courtroom, Rauf has had many roles, including Chair of the Diversity and Inclusion Justice Network, and President of the Football Federation of South Australia from 2006 to 2016. A skilled martial artist and a soccer fanatic, Soulio was deputy chairperson of the Asian Football Confederation’s Entry Control Body and an arbitrator for the Court of Arbitration for Sport. He also chaired the South Australian government’s sporting advisory committees.

Rauf has also served as Chair of the Australian Multicultural Council, and was a member of the National Access and Equity Inquiry Panel, the National Anti-Racism Partnership Strategy and the Courts Interpreter User Group. He was Chair of the Migrant Resource Centre of South Australia, and sat on the judging panel of the Governor’s Multicultural Awards Program.

Alongside his wide work in multiculturalism, Rauf was a founding member of the National Judicial Council. Rauf has also held positions on the executive of the Australian Judicial Officers Association, the Anzac Centenary Advisory Board and the Aged Care Reform Implementation Council.

In 2003, Rauf was appointed as honorary Consul-General for Albania in Australia and also served in that role for Kosovo.

Rauf was made a member of the Order of Australia in 2023 for his service to multicultural affairs, the judiciary and the community.

Eamonn Fitzpatrick

Eamonn Fitzpatrick

Born in Hong Kong, Eamonn Fitzpatrick migrated to Sydney in the early 90s and has spent nearly three decades working in Australian government, media and politics.

He currently heads his own public affairs firm and has advised some of the world’s biggest brands and top 100 ASX companies on effectively engaging governments, stakeholders and the media.

Eamonn was senior press secretary to Prime Ministers Julia Gillard and Kevin Rudd and ran government communications for Premiers Anna Bligh in Queensland and Morris Iemma in New South Wales. More recently he was Asia Pacific Partner at Consulum, an international advisory firm providing special counsel to governments and national leaders on global engagement, economic development and trade promotion.

His experience in the not-for-profit sector includes leading global communications for the iconic global eye health charity, The Fred Hollows Foundation, and previously serving on the board of the Alannah and Madeline Foundation, Australia’s leading child safety charity.

A former Sydney Morning Herald journalist, Eamonn began his career with Hong Kong’s South China Morning Post. He currently appears weekly on Sky News Australia.
