SETSCoP is a community of practice (CoP) bringing together service providers who support refugees and vulnerable migrants under the Settlement Engagement and Transition Support (SETS) program. As a peak body for settlement services, The Social Policy Group facilitates the SETSCoP in partnership with settlement service providers to enable sharing and learning, and improve outcomes for people supported through the SETS program and the wider community.
Healthy Horizons is a national health promotion website focused on migrant and refugee women’s health, delivered by The Social Policy Group in partnership with RANZCOG. Healthy Horizons has been developed in consultation with women from migrant and refugee backgrounds. It provides information and resources on a range of health topics and how to navigate the Australian healthcare system, and is available in English, Arabic and Simplified Chinese.
Up to November 2024, The Social Policy Group delivered Harmony Alliance, one of the six National Women’s Alliances. Through collective advocacy, research, and partnerships, Harmony Alliance played a key role in influencing policies on gender equality, economic participation, and social cohesion. Harmony Votes is a transformative resource that encourages migrant and refugee populations in Australia to register, understand the voting process, and exercise their democratic rights. By addressing gaps in electoral understanding for culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, the initiative provides accessible, accurate, and multilingual resources to ensure inclusive participation in Australia’s democratic processes. This resource is available in English, Arabic, Simplified Chinese, Dari, Hazaragi, Karen, Korean, Nepali, Punjabi, Thai, and Vietnamese.
The Migrant & Refugee Health Partnership brings together health professionals and the community to address systemic barriers to health access for migrant and refugee communities. The Partnership also works to strengthen health-promoting assets in communities, recognising that improvements in the health and health system literacy have a direct positive impact on community health and wellbeing.
The Social Policy Group provides secretariat support to The Judicial Council on Diversity and Inclusion, an initiative of Chief Justice French and endorsed by the Council of Chief Justices of Australia (CCJ). Its purpose is to develop frameworks, best practice advice, and resources to support procedural fairness and equality of treatment for all court users – regardless of their race, colour, religion, national or ethnic origin, sexuality, gender identity, ability, or age – and to promote public trust and confidence in Australian courts and the judiciary.
This website is designed to improve access to justice for people from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds. It provides easily accessible and in-language information on how the Magistrates Court of Queensland operates and answers the most common questions court users may have. This resource is available in English, Arabic, Burmese, Dari, Farsi (Persian), Hindi, Japanese, Korean, Northern Kurdish, Portuguese, Punjabi, Rundi, Samoan, Simplified Chinese, Somali, Spanish, Swahili, Tamil, Thai, Traditional Chinese and Vietnamese.
Legal Literate is a plain English glossary website with definitions of common legal and judicial terms. It is designed for use by interpreters but may also be useful to court and tribunal users, staff, or to assist judicial officers in explaining legal terms. This resource seeks to overcome language barriers in the justice system for Australia’s culturally and linguistically diverse communities by explaining terms used in courts and support interpreters as they work with clients. Legal Literate was created by the Judicial Council on Diversity and Inclusion, an initiative supported by The Social Policy Group.
This Guide is for people and organisations in the community and health services sector, as well as in the multicultural and settlement sector, who engage with new and expectant fathers from migrant and refugee backgrounds as part of their work.
‘Men, Health and Culture’ has been developed with men from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds. Men with a variety of migration and life experiences can use these resources to find information and reflect on their mental health, their relationships, and their life goals. This resource is available in English, Arabic and Simplified Chinese.
This website aims to assist organisations in the community and health services sector to provide advice and practical tips on how to engage with men from migrant and refugee backgrounds, including new and expectant fathers, and to better support these men in their mental health, and as they navigate their roles as partners and parents in Australia, while maintaining their cultural values.
The Social Policy Group administers the Community and Cohesion Support Program (CCSP). The Program seeks to support Australian Palestinian, Muslim and Arab community grassroots organisations undertaking critical work to respond to the acute needs of the communities affected by the ongoing conflict. With a strong focus on youth and women, CCSP seeks to promote a sense of belonging and connection, build social inclusion and cohesion, and strengthen whole-of-community engagement.
The Women’s Safety Hub was created with the help of migrant and refugee women. It provides information in different languages for those at risk of or experiencing domestic, family, and sexual violence. These resources help women find the information and support they need. This resource is part of a larger discussion about gender-based violence and women's safety.
The Social Policy Group delivered the Afghan-Australian Community and Settlement Support grant program, which aimed to support Afghan-Australian and other community and grassroot organisations undertaking critical work to welcome and support people recently evacuated from Afghanistan.
The Social Policy Group delivered the Ukrainian Community and Settlement Support (UCASS) program, which sought to enable the member organisations of the Australian Federation of Ukrainian Organisations to undertake critical work to welcome and support recently arrived displaced Ukrainians.
